This update is based on SHIELD Experience Upgrade 9.0 and includes the following fixes: Bought the pro version and no longer have issues.Today we released SHIELD Experience Upgrade v9.0.1 (33.1.0.283) for all SHIELD and SHIELD Pro units. Needless to say I was very deep into this trying to resolve this. That was 2 years ago, but here is the same issue being reported on the Plex forums 4 days ago. Here is an Nvidia forum post with an employee confirming that they have been working with Plex directly to try and fix the issue citing memory issues.

Nearly every link here on the first page describes the issue and indicates swapping for the Pro model is the only 'fix'. Can also confirm that the moment it was switched out with a pro the issue was not present with no other changes on my end. It's pretty well documented it's an issue with the tube but it really is an edge case with high bitrate 4K content (typically in the 70-80gb file range).

The Plex client itself would be near frozen trying to stop/pause the movie. Things will play fine for a while, but will eventually stutter. Verified multiple times that it was all direct with no transcode. Your plex server may be trying to transcode the 4k stream and can't keep up, hence the stuttering/buffering.ĭefinitely not a transcoding issue.
